The FA Cup

Tough Test for Ducks As FA Cup Drawn

29th September 2008

Aylesbury United have been given a tough test in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round, which has just been drawn.

The Ducks will travel to the imposing Twerton Park, to take on Bath City, on Saturday 11th October.

Aylesbury have previous Cup history with Bath, having lost to an injury time goal in a First Round Proper tie back in 1986.

In five meetings between the two teams over the years, United have been on the losing side on every occasion.

Elsewhere, Aylesbury Vale will face Dorchester Town or Newport County if they come through their replay with Gosport Borough, and United's landlords Chesham will be away at Oxford City.

Ducks See Off Mangotsfield In Style

27th September 2008

Ducks 4-1 Mangotsfield United Aylesbury embarassed Premier Division Mangotsfield by sending them out of the FA Cup with a 4-1 defeat.

The Ducks outplayed their higher level opponents for most of the match, and went into a two-goal first half lead through Ross Taylor and a Craig Henney penalty.

Mangotsfield pulled a goal back before the interval, but never genuinely looked like threatening a comeback as the Ducks comfortably kept them at bay.

The win was made safe midway through the half when goalkeeper Josh Clapham couldn't keep out Stuart Maynard's free-kick, and Mangotsfield were sent home with their tails between their legs when Mealor added a fourth in the last minute.

A full report from an excellent day's work by Aylesbury is now available via the Fixtures Page.

Meanwhile Aylesbury Vale are still in the competition after drawing 1-1 at home to Gosport Borough, whilst United's landlords Chesham won 4-2 at Weston-Super-Mare.

Youth Start League Campaign With A Draw

22nd September 2008

Ducks Youth 3-3 Marlow Aylesbury's Youth Team got their league campaign underway with a 3-3 draw against Marlow.

In an action packed game United twice took the lead through the impressive Sam Ward, before allowing their visitors to go into a 3-2 draw.

It took a penalty five minutes from time, scored by Alex Sullivan, to claim a well deserved point for a team featuring six inexperienced debutants.

Stourport Swifts

Winning Run Extended With Another 1-0

20th September 2008

Ducks 1-0 Stourport Swifts Stourport Swifts became the third side in a row to suffer a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aylesbury.

Carl Kavanagh's 37th minute goal, heading in Maynard's beautifully delivered free-kick, was enough to separate the sides and set the Ducks on the way to a fifth win in a row.

Stourport looked nothing like a side that had been beaten 7-0 the previous week, and United's defence had to hold firm, particularly coming under pressure towards the end of the game.

That was despite the visitors having been reduced to ten men after Nathan Graham had been hauled down when clean through on goal.

Once again Aylesbury defended resolutely though, and a fourth consecutive clean sheet, seventh game without losing, and another three points will set them up nicely for the visit of Premier Division Mangotsfield United in the FA Cup next weekend.

Hawkins On Target Again in Ducks Win

13th September 2008

Ducks 1-0 Almondsbury Town Aylesbury kept their winning run going to progress in the FA Cup with victory over Almondsbury Town.

Glen Hawkins scored the winner for the second game running, as the Ducks made their superior status count.

Almondsbury worked hard and played some good football at times, but in general the class difference showed and it was a deserved win for the home side.

United had further chances to increase their lead, meaning it was a closer run finish than it should have been - the visitors hitting the bar late on, but the Ducks weren't under serious pressure.

With the win secured, Aylesbury can now look forward to the 2nd Qualifying Round draw which takes place on Monday.

Ducks See Off Roms' Challenge

6th September 2008

Romulus 0-1 Ducks Aylesbury made it three wins in a row with a battling victory at Romulus.

The first half was evenly matched, and despite Maynard for Aylesbury and Smith for Romulus hitting the bar, it was goalless at the break.

Glen Hawkins scored what proved to be the winner ten minutes after the interval, smashing home his third goal in three games from a tight angle.

Aylesbury had to defend strongly for the remainder of the game, but once again looked solid at the back and took home all three points.

A late injury to Ben Stevens, who suffered cracked ribs after a collision with a Romulus player, was the only sour note on an otherwise successful afternoon.

Full report from Romulus to follow.
