Ducks Fail to Overcome Malvern in Frustrating Draw

31st January 2009

Malvern Town 1-1 Ducks The Ducks returned from basement club Malvern with only a point to their name after a disappointing afternoon.

Things had got off to a promising start when Chris Marsh gave United a tenth minute lead from the penalty spot.

But the advantage lasted just six minutes before Malvern were gifted an equaliser, and from that point on the Ducks struggled. In most areas of the pitch the team were well below par.

Having taken just nine points all season, Malvern were definitely there to be beaten, but United's play lacked any real cohesian.

There were some positives from Aylesbury's point of view with the return from injury of Carl Kavanagh and Craig Henney, but it was a case of two points dropped as away day inconsistensy reared its' ugly head once again.

Full report is now available via the fixtures page.

The winner will be the official team mascot for the game on the 21st February when the Ducks entertain Nuneaton Town in a top-of-the-table clash at The Meadow, Chesham.

Stourport Swifts

Deserved Away Win for Ducks

17th January 2009

Stourport Swifts 1-2 Ducks Aylesbury made a storming return to action with a well deserved win at Stourport Swifts.

Apart from a twenty minute spell at the start of the second half, the Ducks controlled the game, and, in the first half particularly, created chance after chance but had no luck in front of goal.

That sticky period after the break saw Stourport take the lead with a rare attack, but United dug deep and equalised through Matt Butler with over twenty minutes remaining.

Aylesbury kept pushing for the win and eventually a second goal arrived six minutes from time, Glen Hawkins netting his fifteenth of the season.

Full report from Walshes Meadow is now available via the fixtures page.

Burnham 2-2 Ducks Youth Aylesbury's U18 side returned to action with a battling 2-2 draw at Burnham.

The result was a creditible one as the United side was hit by unavailability and illness, the starting line up subsequently containing nine players under 17 and six being under 16.

The Ducks came from behind to lead the match thanks to goals from Sam Ward and Joe Pickwick, but the hosts equalised to take a share of the points.

Rothwell Town

Ducks Rise To See Off Rothwell

1st January 2009

Ducks 2-0 Rothwell Town A goal each from strikers Nathan Graham and Glen Hawkins earned Aylesbury a deserved victory.

The win takes the Ducks, who were still without seven of their first choice players through injury, to within a point of the playoff positions after taking maximum haul of six points from the two festive fixtures.

In the freezing conditions, the match was punctuated by heartwarming comical moments to keep the spectators amused, notably when Simon Underwood crashed a shot against the bar from four-yards out, as Rothwell spurned a number of chances to take something from the game.

In the end, the team that took their chances won out, with Hawkins burying a left-footed finish on 15 minutes, and Graham doing similar on 53 following an intricate passing move worthy of the entrance fee alone.

The second goal secured the win, which had by no means looked comfortable until that point, but this was mostly due to Aylesbury rarely getting out of second gear.

Full report from The Meadow is now available via the fixtures page.
