2006
I will start with this coming Saturday as it is very important to us all with the passion and excitement the FA Cup generally brings.
I have unfortunately been dealt a massive blow with the MK Dons management not allowing the release of the two players on loan for this particular cup, along with Ben Stevens picking up a serious cruciate ligament injury which will rule him out for a lengthy period. As you can see this is three of the back four from the previous two games, causing me no end of problems.
Having only been told of the MK boys late Wednesday afternoon it has left me very little time to sort things out however I hope to be able to sign one or two players before the noon deadline on Friday.
Questions will be raised as to why we use loan players or indeed did not sort this out earlier, well in fact Chris Dann and myself whilst attending a reserve fixture were told verbally that it would not be a problem. Obviously since then, and as we require it in writing, they have reviewed the situation and changed their minds! I still believe we needed to bring these lads in at the start and their performances have endorsed that.
Reflecting on the season start so far to have had two wins with clean sheets, one draw and a loss I am relatively happy, I guess my only criticism is that the opening game of the season should probably have been a win so I look upon that as two points lost. The Brackley game was a good learning curve for all involved and had we not have started so slow again it was a game we would have got something out off as the second half performance was very good.
The league itself is going to be very tough and physical as we have already found out, it is also my belief that it will be quite an open league as it is already indicating, so as long as we keep picking the points up we will certainly stay in touch with the front runners
On the player front as already indicated we are looking to strengthen due to the situation above and the one or two injuries we are picking up. I have already signed a second keeper Floyd Croll who is relocating down here in the middle of September, he has been part of Wigan's reserve set up so should offer some stiff competition for Tom Vincent. I will obviously keep you updated on any signings we make.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you that have travelled away so far and for the support at Leighton our temporary home, both myself and the players appreciate it.

Matt Hayward has now left and signed for Banbury; Matt phoned me and we had a long conversation ahead of it going public that I respect him for. Matt obviously fully understands he will always be welcome back should things not work out for him in the future, and in the mean time I wish him all the best.
Justin Gordon re-signed on Thursday. I regard him as a very good up and coming youngster who has a superb attitude to training and learning, and I am sure he will be ever present in the squad this coming season.
Nando Perna has signed and will bring experience to the squad, four other players were spoken to and will make their decisions by the time I return and will hopefully put pen to paper then.
The two new lads who trained with us as documented previously looked very good and have been asked to continue training with us although one is currently having trials with Northampton Town.
This Saturday sees our first game at Aston Clinton, and in mine and Tony’s absence Mark Eaton, along with youth team manager Chris Penny and coach Eddie Wright will oversee this game. I must emphasise it will be used as a training match and the remit from me is to look at one or two of the players we know little about at the same time giving those already signed a good work out.
As this game is local I hope a few of you will make the short journey to watch.

I am pleased that we now have a full pre season schedule with the addition of Chesham away on Tuesday the 1st, and Corby Town from the Premier away on Saturday 12th. Considering these two and the other three were arranged fairly late I feel they will give us a good test prior to the season starting at home on the 19th August.
Pre season training is going well with on average twenty six players attending, nearly all are of good quality and those few that are not we will be parting company with by next week. Some of the others I need to have a look at in the early pre season games before I make a decision on those players. It would be untrue of me to say that I am happy in all areas, this is not the case and both Tony Thompson and myself are working hard to fill these few gaps with the contacts we have, and hopefully two players from Gravesend and Northfleet will be joining the sessions this week.
I was stopped in the street last week by what I have to believe is a long standing fan who put me on the spot and asked why I have not held on to some of the players from last season, especially Rob Gould and Matt Hayward. His view was the club should have done everything in our power to keep them. Well I can tell you we have, and indeed are still trying to retain Matt Hayward who as yet has not made a firm decision, although Rob Gould has signed for Hemel. I can assure you, as I tried to explain to the man questioning me, it is about the level of football and not the money, although I could not get him to understand that!!
Moving on to the players, those that have actually agreed terms and signed this week from last year's squad are Richard Pringle and Kyle Kilmartin. More will be confirmed following Thursday's training session, and I certainly hope to retain all the younger players who are training very well.
New players who have agreed terms and signed are Brett Court, a defender previously with Chesham United and Leighton Town, Liam Smyth, a young and exciting player from Buckingham who spent the last few months at Oxford United. Enzo Silvestri returns to the club after a season at Leighton Town where he scored many goals from his midfield role.
Further to paper reports and web sites Danny Mead has been training with us, and has yet to sign for anyone. I am still hopeful following his return from holiday in two weeks time we will be able to thrash out a suitable deal for him to agree to put pen to paper, but that will obviously be Danny's final decision.
Before I go away next Monday I will update you on any further signings, my holiday keeps me away for the first game against Aston Clinton, Tony will also be away so that game will be left to Mark Eaton who has joined us on the coaching side. This game will be used purely as a warm up game and some fringe players will be given the opportunity to play ahead of the Chesham game.
To finish I would personally like to acknowledge the hard work of the few who have been down at the ground working. I only hope it all comes together for their sake with only four and a half weeks until the season begins.
