Paul Curtis on Stortford

2nd March 2004

Alistair MacLaren once again has been in touch with Paul Curtis, and we have his thoughts on yesterdays extraodinary game.

"It was noticeable last night that the players are coming to terms with what's being asked of them. After the pre-match talk the team were much more focused on getting the ball into the Bishop's Stortford penalty area, which was my intention for them.

We changed shape slightly at half-time, which seemed to work well. I thought Rory Hunter and Ryan Wiffin both did very well in front of goal, but it was an excellent all round team performance.

I feel special mention must also go to Matt Brandish though, who gave a tremendous performance, equal to how Adam Garner played on Saturday.

I felt Stortford's penalty was dodgy to say the least, but they were dominant during this part of the game. To recover to 3-3 showed great character, and the lads were really fired up in the last 10-15 minutes of the game with something to play for. To go behind, but to then come back again says it all!

A number of people have said how Stortford should have won the game becuase they had more chances. However, this game is all about putting away your chances. I reckon they had 20 efforts on goal, yet we had 6 and scored 4 of them. It's how many go in that counts, and we had the rub of the green for a change.

On the squad front, Danny Mead missed last night's game with illness, and Ashley Hilton had a sore calf towards the end, but wanted to play on. Lewis Pritchard won't be available on Saturday.

It's likely that we'll keep with the same team for Saturday's game, as far as possible. I dont want to take anything for granted, but feel we could get the win on Saturday if the improvement continues."
