Player Profile
Versatile player and fans favourite, Greg amassed more than 200 appearances for the club over five seasons. 'The Leader' was snapped up by Cliff Hercules in close-season 2001 having been spotted playing for near neighbours Thame United.
He proved his worth, and played fifty games during the promotion season, as a right-back, including a memorable outing to Port Vale in the FA Cup 1st Round.
Following that point, he perhaps became a victim of his versatility, often being moved around the team. Under Steve Cordery in 2002/03 he was used predominantly as a midfielder, but featured in just about every position going in midfield and defence. Greg even played in goal, having an impressive hour covering for the injured Adam Wheeler.
2003/04 was even less memorable for Greg, as he was once again moved about the team, and struggled with a knee injury for much of the season.
There is no disguising the talent of Greg Williams though. A workaholic, he always gives 100% and fights to the death for the team. Also capable of scoring, he weighs in with his fair share of goals, with 9 in his first season, and a memorable strike against Braintree in a 2003/04 FA Cup match.
Injury curtailed his appearances in his final season at the club, and spells at Oxford City and Banbury United followed.
Now player/manager at Aylesbury FC.
