Aylesbury took on Hemel Hempstead in this Delphian League (later to become Athenian Div 2) fixture with the two sides lying 3rd and 4th in the table. The first half went to form, a tight game with Aylesbury getting close on a number of occasions, but Hemel broke away and scored just before the interval. Whether United had a whiff of Oxygen or large brandies at half time is not known, but they turned on such a second half performance that they scored seven goals without reply to win the game 7-1. Goal scorers were those two favourites for many years Ivor Harper with 3 and Ray Mabbutt 2 with Ingle scoring the other 2. No penalties that day to 'Tarps' the penalty king. |
