After bouncing back from their 4-0 away Southern League defeat at Dover with a 1-1 home draw with Canterbury City the previous Saturday, Leo Markham's side turned their attentions to the FA Trophy and gave Alliance Premier League side Northwich Victoria a mighty fright at Turnfurlong Lane.

Vics best chance came in the eleventh minute when Colin Williams turned Paul Mayman's free-kick goalwards.

The second half was United's from the start with Holmes and Markham going close before at the other end Baker saved in a scramble and then at a post from Paul Wilson.

The huge cheer of relief from the large Vics contingent in the 2331 crowd at the final whistle told its own story as the visitors escaped back to Cheshire gratefully they'd not been on the end of a giant killing... at least for now...
