After a traumatic and uncertain summer the future of the Ducks was finally secured just days before this Isthmian Premier Division clash. Current owner Bill Carroll finally seeing off the challenge of now Barry Town supremo Kevin Green and his Yorkshire business associate.

With both clubs starting their campaigns poorly, league points were at a premium. United started the match in sixteenth position, just four places and two points ahead of Hitchin.

Aylesbury began brightly and took the lead after just five minutes. Left back Justin Skinner's corner was met by the head of Matt Hayward and the Hitchin keeper Andy Palfreyman was left with no chance.

United midfield playmaker Peter Scott saw his effort sail just over before the visitors had their best spell early in the second half. Jon Bone put a glorious opportunity wide before Nick Grime's stinging shot came back off the post, much to the relief of Gary Phillips in the Aylesbury goal.

His feelings were shared amongst the green and white contingent in the crowd, and as the final whistle sounded a collective sigh was audible around the ground.
