At the fourth time of asking, the last remaining 100% run in the Premier Division ended with leaders United only managing a draw against Boreham Wood.

United gave a home league debut to former Luton defender Richard Harvey, and Lee Harvey took over at centre-back due to Hercules being ruled out with a calf and ankle injury picked up at Enfield.

At midway through the first half United could have been three ahead. Gary Crawshaw shot narrowly wide from a very acute angle, and he jinked past three defenders only to have his goalbound effort charged down by Saunders.

Lee Harvey very nearly got his first for the club with a long range shot which flew just wide of Taylor and the post.

The visitors suffered a blow when top scorer the previous season Shaun Marshall was carried off with a leg injury after 32 minutes and was replaced by Mark Xavier.

Just before the interval Corey Browne forced Taylor into a great tip over save, and two minutes later Taylor blocked at his feet after Browne had nipped in to rob Saunders.

Early in the second half Browne twice went close, most memorably after 53 minutes with a mazy run, ending with a chip over Taylor, unfortunately just over the crossbar.

On 74 minutes Richard Wilmot produced a superb save. A free kick by Hollingdale to the far post found Daly who had a free header, Wilmost diving to tip the ball for a corner.

In the closing stages Kenrick Roudette cut inside and shot straight at Taylor, and Wood almost nicked it at the death through Xavier, but big Wilmost covered his angles to block.

It would have been cruel to lose, and United remained joint top, albeit second on goal difference to early season surprise package Bromley.
