This emphatic victory summed up how well the team, assembled by Bob Dowie, could play together and it was a result they'd been threatening all season. United went into the game second in the table behind Purfleet albeit with five games in hand, but were expecting a tough afternoon at a side sitting in seventh, who'd been runners up the previous season.

The match started well for the Ducks when Corey Browne's shot came back off the post and Gary Crawshaw was on hand to put his side in front, but the home side equalised seven minutes before the break through Simon Ireland, whose shot crept in via a post.

At that stage few would have predicted the second half onslaught, but as soon as Gary Crawshaw slotted home a penalty in the fifty-third minute United rarely looked troubled.

The key to the Ducks revival was the introduction of Phil Mason. The silky-skilled midfielder had signed from Oxford City in the close season for a reported ?8000, but a career-threatening knee injury om a pre-season friendly at Brackley had delayed the start of his Aylesbury career.

His vision and quality quickly transformed United as an attacking force and within ten minutes of his introduction the former Newcastle United man had set up a third. Ian King benefitting from Mason's header back across goal.

Kieran Gallagher set Ian Rutherford free two minutes later and the bleach-blonde one's feed left Jermaine Darlington the easy task of rounding the keeper and rolling the ball home.

Ten minutes from time QPR-bound Darlington set up Crawshaw for his second hat-trick of the season before a last minute strike from substitute Steve Butler, whilst sitting on his backside, completed the scoring.

Sadly it was the last truly great performance we saw from that side but those who saw it will never forget it.
