United finally got three points on the board following a tense climax to their first visit to Bishop's Stortford's new stadium. The Ducks stormed to a three goal lead after just 14 minutes. Darren Grieves struck twice in two minutes before Bobby Highton added a third. Wotton twice went close before Grieves hit the post, but right on half-time Stortford won a free kick which they fired in to close the deficit. The second half saw the home side in the ascendency. Stortford narrowed the margin further on the hour, and had numerous half chances after that. With 90 minutes on the clock ex-Duck Garry Kimble struck a free kick which keeper James Courtnage had to turn over. Eventually after 5 minutes of added time, the ref blew his whistle. United were off the mark?but only just. |
