United started their Isthmian League Cup campaign in deepest Sussex against Lewes of the Third Division.

After 5 minutes Roni Joe raced clear but his shot was well saved, and from the rebound Danny Gordon shot tamely.

The only over effort of note from Lewes in the first 20 minutes was a free kick which sailed a yard over.

Scott Honeyball headed a Peter Donnelly cross over from 4 yards out and Roni Joe had another 1 on 1 saved, with his follow up brilliantly cleared off the line.

In the second half Lewes started to get into the game, with both Danny Honeyball and Peter Donnelly forced to make goal-line clearances.

The first period of extra time saw Roni Joe guide a good ball from Donnelly wide of the upright ? but Lewes missed an even better chance, clearing the bar from 3 yards out.

In the second period of extra time Bobby Highton was dismissed for a second yellow card, but the Ducks comfortably held out for a 0-0 draw.
