Newly appointed manager Geoff Chapple had made a number of notable signings for Kingstonian in the Summer including ex-Wycombe pair Terry Evans and Matt Crossley and his side had made a solid start to the season. They sat in fourth place, ten points behind early pacesetters Dagenham & Redbridge but with a couple of games in hand.

Aylesbury on the other hand were struggling and hadn't won for five matches including a humiliating 6-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Gravesend & Northfleet. United were just four points from the foot of the table but a victory would move them up to mid table.

Not surprisingly the visitors started stronger and had a number of half chances which were well dealt with by new signing Andy Lomas. An experienced non-league keeper Lomas had often been a thorn in Aylesbury's side when in opposition, but soon proved a useful acquisition. He originally signed as cover for player manager Gary Phillips, but when the United boss was sacked made the number one jersey his own and probably kept the Ducks up with some magnificent saves.

However the match turned on a moment of madness from the K's Dean Hooper, who got himself involved in an off the ball bust up with Tony Joyce and was rightly dismissed just before half-time.

For once Aylesbury used their numeric advantage and were rewarded eleven minutes into the second period when Ricky Sullivan rose to head home a Justin Skinner cross.

United rode their luck a little against the eventual champions before Mick Swaysland sealed things with his side's second deep into injury time.
