The Ducks made their first ever visit to Ford United looking for some inspiration after crashing out of two cup competitions in a week. The Full Members defeat at home to Thame may have been predictable, but the embarrassing FA Cup exit to Third Division Bracknell Town had left United demoralised and in need of a boost.

The squad was down to their bare bones. Gary Wotton had just left for Boreham Wood, Scott Honeyball was suspended and Steve Callinan ill. Add to this the farcical late arrival of goalkeeper James Courtnage, leaving Floyd Streete, in charge for the day due to Cliff Hercules' enforced absence, with no choice but to give seventeen year old David Lovell his first team debut.

Windy conditions made football difficult and United were grateful to still be level at the break. Despite having much of the possession, a lone Darren Grieves effort was their only strike on target. The home side had faired little better however, two close range headers and a disallowed shot were all they managed.

Makeshift Aylesbury looked lively after the break but they went behind on the hour mark. Dean Allen having time to coolly slot the ball beyond Lovell.

This spurred United into raising their game, but with so many first team regulars out, their attacks often broke down before the strikers got a look in. The Ducks best chance came when a Darren Grieves shot was palmed into the path of Kieran Gallagher, his thunderous effort rattling the crossbar.

A collision on the edge of the area prematurely ended the game for one player from each side. United keeper Lovell was helped off with suspected broken ribs, but sadly his opponent faired worse. Andy Aransibia was stretchered off with a broken leg. Darren Grieves took over between the sticks and did very well.

However with two minutes remaining and under pressure, he could only punch a corner skywards, and Glen Thomas rifled the ball home to complete the scoring.
