In their first match of 2001, United gained their first ever point against Ford United, but they should have taken all three. The Ducks were struggling to field a fully fit team. Jefferson Louis was suspended, Danny Bailey unavailable and Daniel Gordon and James Courtnage both had flu, David Lovell handed his second start in the Aylesbury goal. After a first period in which they marginally had the upper hand the home side finally took the lead just four minutes before the break, A rare Danny Honeyball effort eluded the Ford defence and flew into the far corner. After the interval the visitors had a number of half chances before Scott Holding forced a header home from a corner to equalise. This once again prompted United to raise their game, but despite numerous efforts the second goal wouldn't come. |
