In a strange twist of fate that only the FA Cup seems to produce, Aylesbury and Sudbury were drawn together for the second season in a row, this time in the 4th Qualifying Round.

It was hoped that Trevor Gould's men would view the Cup as welcome relief from the toils of the League, but United made exceptionally hard weather of beating their Eastern League opponents.

Even when they made the breakthrough just before the break, they didn't press home their advantage. Cliff Hercules, starting his first match in five weeks, slotting home from close range.

That should have been that, but the visitors battled away and got their just desserts three minutes into stoppage time. Dave McCoy struck an effort from twenty five yards out which bobbled and evaded the outstretched Tim Garner.
