Aylesbury never looked in danger of receiving an unwanted hat-trick of defeats. Indeed substitute Corey Browne was very unlucky not to double the lead after replacing Mike Bignall in the last 20 minutes. On the team front, Kieran Gallagher and Mark Rooney recovered from injury, Cliff Hercules returned from serving a one-match suspension, and Richard Hurst made his debut in goal.

Despite having most of the possession, United failed to create much in the first half and this was not a vintage performance, but at this point in the season it was all about getting the right result. After 9 minutes a great ball by Rooney sent Gary Crawshaw clear. He went round keeper Tarr but ran too wide and the angle proved to acute. Midway through the half Gallagher cut in from the flank and, as the defence backed-off, Gallagher kept going and curled a 20-yard shot just wide.

The breakthrough arrived in the last minute of the half when Crawshaw crossed. Dolby, under pressure from Steve Butler, diverted the ball past Tarr for an own goal.

The action improved in the second half, and on 61 minutes Bignall clipped delightfully over the advancing Tarr and the ball dropped down nicely to make it 2-0.

On 70 minutes Stuart Beevor set-up Paul Wilson who curled a shot just wide from the edge of the box, whilst at the other end Cullinan slotted wide from a good position.

Browne looked sharp when he came on, and after 83 minutes Gallagher chipped a great pass into his path, but Browne's flick past Tarr went agonisingly just wide. Two minutes from time Gravesend's Cooper almost snatched a goal with a downward header, but Wilson cleared off the line to preserve a clean sheet. With Sutton only getting a point at Dagenham, the Ducks briefly returned to the top of the table.
