Despite a brave battling performance, United suffered their third straight defeat to take their winless run to 10 games with this defeat at the leaders in Wiltshire and slip to third bottom in the table. It was a repeat score line of the Errea Cup defeat at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium earlier in the season and was City's sixth straight win. Robbie Matthews almost got City off to a flying start when his header was well saved by young United keeper Sam Styles inside the first minute before the hosts eventually opened their account in the 19th minute when Matthews sent a stinging drive in off the bar. Just four minutes later it was 2-0 when Matthews poked home from close range following a free kick from Craig Davis and although United dug in, they failed to seriously test City keeper Kevin Sawyer before the break. Matthews went close to completing the hat-trick after half time when his lob over Styles went just wide before turning provider in the 82nd minute when he headed across goal for Adam Heath to tap home to make it 3-0. |
