A late Otis Hutchins header, a minute from the end of normal time, settled Easter Monday's derby at Meadow Park. It was tough luck on Aylesbury who had lost the services of Steve Butler and Cliff Hercules in the first half, both with head wounds requiring stitches. From the Gravend game, Mark Rooney had joined the length injury list and was replaced by Danny Gordon, Simon Brown came in for Richard Hurst and Corey Browne partnered Gary Crawshaw up front.

Chances were few and far between throughout, and John Lawford wasted two early chances for the Generals who were missing the injured Allan Pluckrose and keeper Pat Jennings. His replacement Charlie Stallard tipped over a Paul Wilson free kick (13 minutes) and deep into first half stoppages Stallard got down well to tip round a deflected Ian King shot.

Midway through the second half Kieran Gallagher sent the travelling fans wild, showing great control before slotting past Stallard from close range. But the joy was shortlived, thanks to a linesman's flag who signalled Crawshaw offside in the move leading up to it. On 76 minutes Brown tipped over a McAree free kick and, from the corner, Brown twice saved with his legs.

With the latest score from Sutton constantly given over the Tannoy it did nothing to help the nerves. Thankfully the fans didn't raise to the bait, but worse was to follow on 89 minutes when Richard Gell was given space on the left of the box. His byline cross was met by a powerful header from Hutchins and gave Brown no chance. Sutton's 3-0 win over Carshalton put them back on top.
