Aylesbury went three games without a win with a dire 0-0 draw 'away' at Leighton Town.

In terms of Boxing Day entertainment value, this was about as bad as the game gets with both sides seemingly content to play 90 minutes of hit and run football.

Chances were at a premium, the first falling to Enzo Silvestri who tried his luck from 30-yards with goalkeeper Nigel Maarman out of his goal but shot well over.

Aylesbury had a penalty appeal turned down when Luke Melisi appeared to be tripped running from goal, before Daniel Mead drove a shot across goal which was blocked.

In the fifteenth minute, one of Leighton's five former Aylesbury players Bilal Hassan posed a threat with his direct running, but he flashed a shot well wide.

Carl Kavanagh nearly turned unlikely goalscorer four minutes later, after Liam Smyth's free-kick found him in the area, after Maarman had handled outside the area, but the defender's tame effort was easily gathered.

Ben Gallant might have done better for the Reds when he found himself alone in the area, but the ball seemed to bobble in front of him, allowing Vincent to easily claim the ball.

The closest Aylesbury came to a goal in the first half was a result of determination from Leon Gutzmore, who nipped in ahead of Maarman but could only turn the ball back across goal, where he sadly found no team-mate waiting for a tap-in.

Leighton had to be kept at bay twice more before the interval, Nathan Liburd making an excellent saving challenge before the ball was worked back across and smashed into the side netting.

Half-time: Leighton 0-0 Aylesbury

Aylesbury started the second half with more desire, but for their new-found endeavor still were unable to create a clear cut chance. Instead it was Leighton who threatened first when Ieuan Lewis came inside and fired a near-post shot straight at Vincent.

Midway through the half, and with Maarman again off his line, Melisi went close for the Ducks with a crashing effort which only found the side-netting.

United managed to raise their game slightly in the final fifteen minutes of the match, and they could have snatched three points with some better finishing.

Melisi went close again after being fed by Gutzmore, but he shot wide. Then Leighton nearly nicked it themselves when the ball wasn't cut out in midfield, and ran through to Gallant but he skied the ball.

Gareth Linnard replaced Mealor with ten minutes to go, and the substitute should have done better when he got on the end of Smyth's cross, but only headed the ball into the ground. The ball dropped to Butler on the edge of the area, but his volley sailed over.

A minute later Smyth's through ball took a double ricochet, the final touch coming off Peter Clifford before flying into the body of Maarman to prevent an own goal.

In the closing stages Smyth's free-kick was headed goalwards, but easily dived upon by Maarman, and then Linnard volleyed over with his left-foot, as Leighton's ex-Duck central defense of Clifford and Ben Martin held firm for a crucial point for their relegation threatened team.
