Aylesbury were beaten by Chesham for the first time since 2006 as the old Buckinghamshire rivals met for the first time of the season.

To say it was a poor game would be a massive understatement as both sides fell completely flat on the night with the Ducks unable to build on their weekend point against Beaconsfield, and promotion-chasing Chesham?s performance (or lack of it) leaving their supporters disgruntled.

Unfortunately there wasn?t a lot to be positive about from Aylesbury?s point of view as they left the field at full time with goalkeeper Richard Hayward untested and the home side having sauntered to their win.

With a bit more urgency or desire about them, Chesham could have run up a cricket score if truth be told. The Generals found Jack Sillitoe once again in good form, but more often than not it was their own sloppiness which cost them a bigger margin of victory.

Chesham had the first effort as early as the second minute when Kyriacou headed a corner kick back across goal where ex-Duck Nick Leach was waiting but could only hook the ball over the bar.

Another former United player, Chris Bangura, set up the next chance with a well picked out pass to Steve Wales who crashed a shot well wide of the target.

Sillitoe made his first save of the night on the 12 minute mark. A sweeping move saw Leon Archer feed Wales who saw his effort well saved by the goalkeeper who had closed him down quickly. Four minutes later Dave Fotheringham hit a harmless free-kick straight at Sillitoe.

The scoring was opened midway through the half, with the ex-Aylesbury connection prominent. Nick Leach?s clearance from the back found Bangura on the left wing, with Sillitoe making a bad decision to come racing to the edge of the area. Bangura brought the ball closer to goal and with the keeper backpeddling lofted a cross-shot to the far post where Archer had the simplest task of heading home. 1-0 Chesham

Three minutes later and it was two for the home side, Wales beat Rickelle Christian rather easily down the flank and crossed in for Fotheringham who, despite the attentions of two defenders, managed to squeeze home his header. 2-0 Chesham

That was that as far as the hosts were concerned, as they slowed their pace to a canter for most of the half?s remainder.

There were sporadic further chances for Chesham to increase their lead, none better than when Archer was released by an exquisite pass but found Sillitoe quickly off his line to come out of the one-on-one on top, and manage to save the follow-up effort too.

On the stroke of half-time Sam Ledger should have done better when a deep free-kick found him completely unmarked, but he flicked his header wide of the target.

Then, seconds later, Bangura slickly rolled two defenders to break free and went for a placed, curling effort which was easily caught by Sillitoe.

Aylesbury?s only notable effort of the first half, if it can even be described as that, was a weak shot five minutes from the interval by Keith Newby as the ball dropped to him which trickled wide.

The second period was truly dire with both sides as guilty as each other for contributing to such an awful match.

Seven minutes in and Rickelle Christian went on a run for Aylesbury before blasting a shot over the bar. It was about as good as it got for the Ducks.

At the other end Chesham continued to be out of sorts, Leon Archer was played in but saw his low shot comfortably fielded by Sillitoe. He then had another chance from a good pass over the defence but lashed his finish over the bar.

Both sides introduced substitutes to try and liven things up, including a return to green & white for winger Danny Nicholls who made one appearance for Barton Rovers earlier this season, but he barely got a touch of the ball in his twenty or so minutes on the field.

After Wales had curled a shot wide, Chesham missed a gilt-edged chance to score. Archer came forward and skipped past two challenges before hanging up a cross for substitute Adam Parker who somehow headed wide from six-yards.

In stoppage time Newby struck a long-range effort wide, and full time soon followed in a game both sets of supporters were glad to see the back of.
